Remedial massage

The Eucali treatment room and retail space is nestled into a quiet corner of South Brisbane, in a lovingly renovated post-war cottage.

You can find Eucali at 12 Norfolk Road, South Brisbane, at the West End Osteopathic Clinic (on the corner of Norfolk Rd and Cameron St). There is a carpark on Cameron St.

Morgan Sutherland, Eucali artist and remedial massage therapist, can be booked in for remedial massage at the clinic on Thursdays and Saturdays. Her massage style involves using firm, broad pressure to gently target painful areas, as well as gentle mobilisation. She is interested in reducing tension headaches, desk-related pain, and foot pain (especially related to plantar fasciitis).

Morgan completed her diploma of remedial massage in 2019 and is a registered member of Australian Natural Therapists Association (ANTA). You can claim a remedial massage treatment with Morgan on your private health insurance (as long as your insurance covers remedial massage, of course).

What do I wear to a massage treatment?

Wear comfortable clothing, preferably nothing too tight. Elastic waistbands are helpful too. Usually, clients strip down to their underwear for their treatment, or leave their trousers on. Underwear must be worn during your treatment; otherwise, a disposable g-string can be provided for you.

Avoid wearing shapewear for your appointment, as remedial massage involves towel draping, with the towel tucked into your underwear. Shapewear can make this process difficult and uncomfortable. Regular underwear is best for a smooth and comfortable treatment.

Is remedial massage painful?

Remedial massage can sometimes be uncomfortable, especially when addressing deep-seated tension or trigger points, but it should never be unbearably painful. Massage should ease into the depth required, adjusting to your comfort level.

Ultimately, the treatment is about you—what you need and what will be most effective for your body. Success depends on your ability to relax, so excessive pain would be counterproductive. If anything feels too intense, pressure is the easiest thing to change—massage can be adjusted to keep your treatment both effective and comfortable.

Will I feel sore after a remedial massage?

Some people experience mild soreness, similar to post-exercise muscle fatigue. This is normal and should subside within a day or two. Staying hydrated and mobile (gentle movement) can help.

Can I get a remedial massage if I'm pregnant?

Yes (unless advised otherwise by your medical team), but it’s extremely important to communicate this at the time of your booking. Pregnancy massage techniques are used to ensure your comfort and safety, usually after the first trimester.

Do I need to bring anything to my appointment?

No, just yourself. If you have any relevant medical information, such as scans or reports, you’re welcome to bring them, but they’re not required.
